Sturdy One Among Fifteen American Handicap Hopes HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., June 26. — Mr. and Mrs. F. N. Phelps Sturdy One, who has been threatening to take one of Hollywood Parks major events ever since the meeting opened, finally made it last Saturday in the running of the 5,000 Inglewood Handicap and his next logical step in a campaign leading him to the Gold Cup is the American Handicap to be run over a mile and an eighth on July 4. Nominations for that event were announced and Sturdy Ones name stands out boldly on the list of 15 subscriptions. In the American, Sturdy One again will encounter most of those he defeated last week-end and, perhaps, several others. Citation passed up last weeks race because of a minor leg disorder, but he was named for the American along with All Blue, Bewitch and Coaltown. Bewitch turned in an especial sharp effort in the Inglewood for she came from last place in the field of eight to earn her share of the purse. The disappointment of the Inglewood was Moonrush who earlier in the meeting won the Golden State Breeders Handicap for King and Luellwitz. He seemed unable to handle his top weight of 126 pounds and eventually hauled home in last place. Moonrush also was made eligible for the American and, of course, so was Be Fleet. The complete list of American Handicap nominations follows: Alderman Moonrush All Blue Old Rockport Be Fleet Postwar Valor Bewitch Repeluz Citation sir Butch Coaltown Sturdy One Great Circle Sudan Mocopo
