L. R. Chadwell, Former Rider, Killed in Freak Auto Accident GROVE CITY, Ohio, June 5.— Funeral services were held here Tuesday for Lloyd Riley Chadwell, 24, former jockey of- Grove City, who was killed in a freak accident early Sunday. Chadwell was introduced to racing by owner-trainer E. J. Easthom but was forced to abandon his promising saddle career because of increasing weight. He rode at Beulah Park and other Ohio tracks. Chadwell lost his life when he was struck by an automobile while he was crawling from the wreckage of his own car. The driver of the second automobile, Donald Peck, 19,, of Columbus, told officers that he mistook Chadwell for a "bundle of rags." . Franklin County sheriffs deputies reported Chadwell apparently was heading west when his car went out of control and crashed into a ditch. They theorized that the former rider, in a dazed condition, made his way up an embankment and onto the highway where he was struck by Pecks car. The mishap occurred near Shadeville, southeast of here.
