— Yankees Triumph Over Sox, 6 to 4 Johnny Sain Whole Show As Bronx Bombers Sweep Series With Chicagoans By CARL LUND QUI ST United Press Sports Writer NEW YORK, N. Y., June 5.— Long John Sain put on a one-man show for the Yankees today, pitching a seven-hit 6-4 victory over the White Sox in which he gave up only one earned run and drove in what proved to be the tying and winning runs with a long fifth inning single. - Sain, who has become one of the Yankees most dependable hitters, had provided the first-game victory in the three-game sweep by New York over the White Sox with a 14th-inning pinch hit. Today, achieving his fifth triumph, he was unsteady in the early innings but gave up only two hits after the second. The Yankes gained the victory over Saul Rogovin with a three-run rally in the fifth in which Sains hit was the crusher. Gene Woodling led off with a walk and Billy Martins single sent him to third. Sain then hit sharply to centerfield and Martin scored all the way from first behind Wood-Jing as shortstop Chico Carrasquel hesitated before relaying the ball to the plate. Mantle Scores Third Run Mickey Mantle, who forced Sain at second and moved up on a passed ball, scored the third run when Hank Bauer tripled to deep left center. Sain, who had to work his way out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning, got into trouble of his own making in the second. Ray Coleman was safe on Sains error on a ground ball and Sam Dente, sacrificing, also was safe when Sain dropped the ball for an error in covering first. Rogovin then drove in the first Chicago run with a single on which Dente stopped at third. Carrasquels single scored Dente and Rogovin cost the Sox a sure run when he was thrown out over-running second. Singles by Al Zarilla and Minnie Minoso produced the third tally. However, the Yankees tied it up quickly with three runs in their half of the second on singles by Yogi Berra and Gil McDoug-ald, a double by Woodling which scored Berra and sent McDougald to third and a two-run single by Martin. In the fourth inning, the White Sox went ahead again on Carrasquels first home run of the year into the lower left field stands. Score by innings: CHICAGO 030 100 000—4 7 0 NEW YORK 030 030 OOx— 6 7 0 Rogovin, Stobbs 6 and Sheely; Sain 5-2 and Berra. Home run — Carrasquel 1st. Losing pitcher — Rogovin 4-5.
