Wideners Battlefield and and Rokeby Stables County Delight are -n equally weighted at 122 pounds to top the O list of 36 candidates remaining eligible for next Wednesdays running of the 5,000 -Massachusetts Handicap at Suffolk Downs, -n Racing secretary O. E. "Eb" Pons was 22 spared the job of assigning weight to Wil- liam Helis, Jr.s Spartan Valor. The son of Attention — Arisbi was declared from the "* mile and a quarter Massachusetts this i= morning when George Barshack, manager z of the Helis Stock Farm, phoned. He ex- m plained that it had been the intention of a* Helis and trainer Frank Catrone to run " Spartan Valor in the Massachusetts Handi- cap but that the colt had not responded to g their satisfaction from a minor ailment and they deemed it advisable to pass up the engagement. The 122-pound assignment to Battlefield represents the lightest impost the War Relic colt has carried since last year. Battlefield won the Dwyer Stakes last July under 121 pounds, and his subsequent burdens have ranged between 123 pounds in the 1951 Arlington Classic and 126 he toted in last years Choice Stakes, the Discovery Handicap and this years Polynesian Handicap. The Widener colt is seeking his first victory of the current year, having started three times, finishing second in the Polynesian and Metropolitan Handicap. In the Suburban, Battlefield finished seventh and marred his record of having finished one-two or three in all races in which" he participated in three years of campaigning. County Delight has started three times this year, finishing fifth in the Excelsior Handicap, fourth in theJDixie and yesterday was beaten by Pensava in an overnight allowance at Delaware Park. Arise Allotted 120 Addison Stables Arise, winner of the Eight Thirty Handicap at Belmont Park on Tuesday, is next in the weight line-up, . beirig assigned 120, three pounds more than Brookmeade Stables Greek Ship. Last years winner of the Suffolk Downs fixture, Greentree Stables One Hitter; is grouped with C. V. Whitneys Mameluke at 116 pounds. Gustave Rings Lone Eagle, who is-yet to make his 1952 bow, gets in the Massachusetts with 115. Crafty Admiral, the sensational son of Fighting Fox from the Charfran Stable, is assigned 114. The New England-owned Hampton Stables Alerted is to carry 113, and. William Ewingrs Auditing is rated at 112. The other Massachusetts eligibles range in weight from Pilasters 111 down, to 95 pounds assigned to Anthony Cataldos War Token.
