Black Gold Purse at Mile And Sixteenth at Omaha French Admiral Will Be Making Initial Start in Sector Today By J. SWEENEY GRANT Staff Correspondent AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr., June 5. — Six of the better intermediate distance runners on the grounds occupy the spotlight on tomorrows program here, and meet in the mile and sixteenth Black Gold Purse. Slated, to match strides in the event are A. C. Sipes Trarab; G. J. Shimas Andy Display; Monaghan Stables Toubolee, William S. Clines Dad, Marion H. VanBergs French Admiral; and, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Craigs Reno Upabout. French Admiral, well-bred son of War Admiral and Exangelist n., recently arrived from Chicago where he was acquired by his present owner from Bernard W. Landy. Earlier in the spring Landy purchased the five-year-old campaigner from the Reverie Knoll Farm of Freeman Keyes. French Admiral was highly regarded as a three-year-old, but the ensuing year failed to live up to expectations and was unable to register a victory in 18 starts. In his last start during the Lincoln Fields at Hawthorne, he defeated a group of ,500 paters, nosing, out Kay Doody in that event. During his career French Admiral has not won too many races, but on numerous occasions was asked to compete against the better handicap charges in the Mid-West. It is possible that he maintains enough class to defeat his rivals in the Black Gold. He will be ridden by Hank Manifold. Dad was fourth in the Ak-Sar-Ben Memorial Handicap in his last trip postward. The Cline racer scored one of the most impressive victories of his career when he accounted for the Inaugural Handicap at Oaklawn Park earlier in the year. Following the close of the Spa season, Dad was shipped to Chicago where he was unsuccessful in the quest for his second score of the year. In addition to his rather unimpressive showing in the local race, Dad was second to the highly-regarded Butch K. in the Ak-Sar-Ben Council Handicap. John Brooks has been assigned the mount. Trarab took the measure of a band of platers in his most recent start and listed among his victims in that essay Andy Display, who again will contest him tomorrow. Trarab has the necessary speed to keep his victory skein intact and may prove difficult to down. Andy Display was fourth to Trarab and was beaten approximately one length. Trarab will be ridden by Sonny Ray Williams. No rider has been assigned Andy Display. Reno Upabout finished fifth to Butch K. in the Memorial Handicap in which he was always a strong factor. Entering the stretch of the contest, Reno Upabout moved up menacingly, but tired thereafter and was beaten some three lengths. Toubole, one of the more prominent California importations, has been working well during the past week and an improved effort from his first start here is expected. He competed against racers valued at approximately ,000 during his stay on the West Coast.
