Combs, Hanes Purchase Ten of Goetz Broodmares Former Also Buys Same Number Of Yearlings From Californian LEXINGTON, Ky., June 5.— Leslie Combs n announced at his Spendthrift Farm here today that he and John W. Hanes, recently elected a member of the Jockey Club, have purchased 10 broodmares from William Goetz. The mares will remain at Spend-, thrift, where Goetz had boarded them, and several have foals at side. They are Alibelle, Alibhai Rose, Be Happy, Code of Arms, Corrtboree, French Vamp, Hugette, Jerry-built, La Boheme and Your Witness. Alibelle has a Priam n. colt and is in foal to Roman, Jerrybuilt has an Alibhai colt and is in foal to Coaltown; French Vamp has a Requested filly and is in foal again to that stallion; Hugette has an Ace Admiral colt and is in foal to Shannon II.; Be Happy and Corro-boree to Alibhai. Also involved in the transaction are three shares in the syndicated stallion Alibhai. Combs also acquired from Goetz 10 yearlings for his own account, and plans to offer four of these at the Keeneland summer sales the last four days in July. Those to be marketed here are fillies by Bull Lea — Lady Ajax and Mahmoud — Jerrybuilt, and colts by Bernborough— Torch Rose and Alibhai — Donaval. Torch Rose is the dam of On Trust. The Bull Lea filly is the fourth of her sex by the sire of Real Delight in Combs consignment to the sales this summer. One of the others is out of the good race mare Compliance, another out of Boudoir n., the dam of Your Host. Combs indicated that others of the yearlings purchased from the California sportsman will be offered privately or in the local fall auctions.
