Miss Bobbin, Suffki Among Nine Fleet Sprinters in Detroits Hamtramck Purse Top Imposts of 119 Pounds in Allowance Feature Carried By Bee Lee Tee, Swamp Son By DON FAIR Staff Correspondent DETROIT, Mich., June 5.— Nine fleet sprinters are to go postward tomorrow at this spacious Detroit race course in the three-quarters mile Hamtramck Purse. Under the allowance conditions of the feature, Theodore D. Buhls locally-owned Bee Lee Tee and Tony Ferrarars New Orleans-owned Swamp Son are equal high weights at 119 pounds. Bee Lee Tee is to have the saddle services of Gerald- Champagne but trainer Glen Fowler didnt name a rider for Swamp Son when the Hamtramck en • tries were drawn this morning. While Bee Lee Tee and Swamp Son are accorded outside chances to achieve major honors in the Hamtramck, seasoned observers are of the opinion the race will lay between A. and M. Craigs Suffki, 110; Marion H. Van Bergs Miss Bobbin, 114; and G and G Stables Dear Tint, 108 pounds. Others named for the dash are Ralph Lowes Will You Dance, 98, J. J. Messinas Wide Request, 105, Mrs. Arthur Brents Nephisto, 110, and the Sobare Stables Air Flight, 117 pounds. | i ; The apprentice allowance was claimed for Will You Dance and Wide Request and young Joe Valenti will guide the Lowe representative with Blake Collins slated to handle Wide Request. Tommy Barrow has calls on both Suffki and Dear Tint while Joe Marrero is engaged for Air Flight, Lois Cook will ride Miss Bobbin and Arthur Stone rides the Canadian-owned invader Nephisto. Miss Bobbin, Suffki, Dear Tint and Air Flight met defeat here last week-end in the six furlongs Livonia Purse, bowing to Buhl Stables Second Avenue. Miss Bobbin was but a head off the Buhl stallion while a similar distance away Suffki finished a bang-up third. Dear Tint wound up fourth in the sprint after flashing high early foot while Air Flight was beaten off in an even performance. The Hamtramck Purse- return meeting between Miss Bobbin and Suffki may develop into quite a duel. Miss Bobbin came from well off the early pace to garner the place award in the recently-decided Huron while Suffki also made up considerable ground while racing in close "quarters during* the stretch drive in that event. Miss Bobbin, one of the mainstays of the Van Berg establishment, won nine races during Continued on Page Thirty-One F Miss Bobbin, Suffki Meet Again in Hamtramck Purse Continued from Page One j her 1951 campaign and picked up earnings of over 6,000 while Suffki, an old favorite with Motor City racing patrons, chalked up three victories over speedy company . here last year. The pairs Huron Purse performances stamp them fit and in top condition for their Hamtramck engagements. * The six furlongs seventh race for three-year-olds and older, attracted 10 useful en- _ trants and probably will be the best supporting number on tomorrows card. Henry Forrests one-time stakes winner, Foray • Vina, who will be ridden by Jimmy Breck-ons, is the overnight choice for the sprint , and, although he was defeated in his initial outing of the current meet, improve- f ment may be expected tomorrow. Foray » Vina won at the Fair Grounds, registered two successful trips at Hot Springs, and visited the Churchill Downs winners circle this spring before his transfer to the local course. „ Foray Vinas work will be cut out for him tomorrow inasmuch as the James Paddock entry, Royal Tulip and Bold Gold, rate highly and either of them could upset the early choice with one of oheir top performances. Mrs. Howard G. Underwoods Hoos-ier Relic has an outside chance, Buckley and Locklears Pilayya may need a race, while Mrs; E. F. Simms homebred Spunky always is dangerous when meeting the class competition he will encounter in the Friday dash. Adler and Zakoors Homing Pigeon and Jerry McCarthy Stables Pollys Delay are coupled for the race. Ralph Lowes Clear Day and C. F. Wagners King Wilson completes the likely starting band for the secondary off ering. Post time tomorrow will be the usual hour, 3:45 p.m.
