LINDEMAN Staff Correspondent FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville., Ill.,June 5 — The Illinois Handicap, main attraction on tomorrow nights nine-race program, drew a field of eight speedy hopefuls to battle it out at six furlongs for a ,500 purse. For the most part the field in the feature have met at least once before during the first two weeks of the current meeting. Of the eight named there are three who are out after their second victory this meeting. Those that have already annexed a purse so far here are Loutey, winner of the Forest Park allowance purse, Senecas Pesty, winner of his last out at six furlongs and Big Cat, winner of the Springfield Purse opening night. Mrs. A. Roths six-year-old Senecas Pesty will try to make it two in a row when he makes his appearance in the Illinois with ,116 pounds up. This son of Curious Coin carried 113 pounds when he defeated most of the rivals he will meet tomorrow, win- - ning by a neck in 1:11%. Senecas Pesty had only started, once prior to his winning effort and in that five and one-half furlongs dash he was only beaten a length and a quarter margin by Loutey in the •f fast time of 1:05 Vs. t Second high weight of 115 pounds in the t Illinois was assigned to Mrs. E. Mucklers four-year-old colt Ruthred. This colt has only made one appearance at this meeting ••and that was in. a mile and a sixteenth race in which he finished seventh after displaying speed for six furlongs. That race and impressive workouts indicate a good effort tomorrow. Hopeful Sam, from the stable of Mrs. H. P. Triplett, will also be making his second appearance here in the feature event. HopefuL Sam finished a bang-up fourth in the St. Louis Handicap, last Saturday night against Senecas Pesty,, being, beaten only by a length. The Triplett" sprinter came from far back in the St. Louis and ! is bound to improve off that effort. Hopeful Sam has only one winning race to his credit this year and that was at the Oak-lawn Park meeting when he won over a band of sprinters in the ,500 claiming class. Big Cat, owned by R. S. Byrum, will, be trying for his second victory of the meeting. Big Cat was second to Senecas Pesty in the- St. Louis Handicap last Saturday, losing by a short neck in 1:11% for the six furlongs. Big Cat drew the same impost of 108 that he packed in his last race here. His first outing at this meeting was a real thriller as he romped home six lengths in front. That winning, race was at five and one furlongs which was clocked at 1:05%. Big Cat had 115 pounds up in that victory. C. Milroys Loutey, winner of his first start here this season at five and one-half furlongs which was run in 1:05%, will try to make amends for his defeat last Saturday" in the St. Louis when he finished sixth after setting the early pace. Loutey will have 110 pounds up for this test and if he can retain some of his speed may prove a tough foe. Others making up the field for the Illinois Handicap are: Mad Saint, who is making his third start here; Fabulous South, who ran a very impressive second to Hard Toab in. her first start at the meeting: and Gyps Gold comes to this race fresh from a winning race at Hawthorne against ,000 claimers.
