Alger Nominated by President To Be Ambassador to Belgium WASHINGTON, D. C, May 15.— Frederick M. Alger, Jr., of Grosse Point. Mich., well known in thoroughbred racing circles, j has been nominated by President Eisen- I hower to be ambassador to Belgium. Alger j owned Azucar, winner of the first running Of the 00,000 Santa Anita Handicap. The; Frederick M. Alger Memorial Handicap, now a feature of the Detroit Race Course j program, was named for his father. Alger 1 was Republican secretary of state in Michigan for six years before running unsuccessfully against Gov. G. Mennen Williams last November.
