t » Nominations Close Tonight For Hawthorne Gold Cup HAWTHORNE, Cicero, 111., May 15.— Hawthorne officials reported today that nominations for the 5,000 added Hawthorne Gold Cup were arriving from all sections of the country. Tomorrow, Saturday, midnight is the deadline for making nominations to the Gold Cup, traditional mile and quarter feature of the Hawthorne 35-day fall meeting, which has been changed to an early-closing event this year. Subscriptions are 00 each for the Gold Cup, with a payment of 50 due on July 1; 50 to pass the entry box and 50 additional to : .art. It is estimated that the Gold Cup will gross in excess of 00,000, making it the richest race ever decided at the West Side course, and the rich handicap event of the fall racing season. Nine other stakes, including the 0,000 added C. W. Bidwill Memorial Handicap will be offered at the Hawthorne meeting which opens September 8 and runs through October 17. These stakes close from 10 days to two weeks before their respective runnings. In all, ,250,000 in stakes and purses will be offered.
