Teacake Takes Unicorn Purse at Suffolk Downs Wins by Length Over Stratheden With Please Pat in Show Spot SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass.. , May 15. — Teacake, a chestnut daughter of i Okapi-Tea Bloom sporting the silks of owner-trainer R. W. Collins, moved from I last to first in less than a quarter mile of ! the featured Unicorn Purse to defeat G. R. Wynhoff s Stratheden this dreary day here. . A length separated the pair as the six furlongs was reached in 1 : 12 over the fast racing strip. A neck back of the runner-up, J. C. Montanas Please Pat took the minor • award from Mrs. S. McKeowns Chic Queen. . A light shower which fell during the running of the sixth race caused a break in the heavy fog which hovered around the oval i during the earlier races. It wasnt until the i feature, however, that the patrons were able , i I ! . • . i i to clearly follow the progress of a race. The damp uncomfortable afternoons sport was witnessed by 8,822 and the only solace chalk players received was when Tony DeSpirito drove Mystic Gold in the fourth race and Swamp Theatre in the sixth to score in picture finishes. Tin Twist and Jimmys First were installed tepid choices in the Unicorn,, but neither had the stamina to figure in the spoils. Jimmys First, seeking his third straight victory, took command at the start. but succumbed to a challenge by Chic Queen entering the stretch. The latter, rid-. den by DeSpirito, was unable to shake off her sophomore rivals and was passed first by Stratheden, then by Please Pat and finally the ultimate winner. Teacake was capably handled by Ralph Borgemenke, who chose to sit tight while trailing the field early and allowing the chestnut filly to run during the final quar-i ter mile. Those who backed the Collins miss received .80. It was the second triumph of her career. She did not race as a two-I year-old.
