Heading the field for the sixteenth running of the dash are Mrs. Samuel M. Pistorios Tuscany and Jan Burkes Squared Away, who will operate under 125 and 121 pounds, respectively. Tuscany has a pair of companions in Mrs. Pistorios Brazen Brat, 113, and High Ground Stables Landseair, 109 pounds. Others entered overnight are: Alan T. Clarkes Senator Joe, 118; Belair Studs Hy-phasis, 116 W. Ellis Johnsons War Phar, 114; Gee M. Cohens Jess Linthicum, 111; Danny Sheas Sweet Vermouth, 110; Mrs. Ray Staritas Giorgetti, 107, and the Dun-treath Farm coupling of Whiff enpoof, 110, and First Refusal, 104 pounds. Trainer Bowes Bond elected to start Tuscany in the local fixture rather than the Valley Forge, due to the difference in distance, the latter event being over the mile and 70 yards route. Tuscany hasnt raced since the Toboggan, which he won by dashing down the Belmont straightaway for six furlongs in 1 : 10, over a good track. The son of The Rhymer has now earned 4,150 in four starts, having finished first in the Rowe, second in the Jamaica and fourth in the Camden in his other engagements. He will again enjoy the saddle services of Nick Shuk. Landseair Two-Time Bowie Victor While regarded a bit below Tuscany, Landseair and Brazen Brat also are due . consideration. Landseair won a pair of races at Bowie and was beaten by War Age I in a local engagement after having gone to his knees soon after the start. Brazen Brat has nothing but good races in her five , starts since shipping north and in her last engagement raced Senator Joe to a nose at tomorrows distance. Senator Joe, whose time of 1:06 in winning last years Primary Day, remains as a ] track record, received an excellent condi- i tioner last week when he raced within two-fifths of a second of that mark. On that occasion he worked under 123 pounds, i which is five more than he has been asked | to carry in the Baltimore Spring. Bobby , Mitchell will do the riding. : Best of the invaders are Squared Away I and Hyphasis, both of whom have done the majority of their racing on the New York I circuit. Squared Away, one of last years i . I , ] i i | , : I I i top sprinters, won the Paumonok for his only score of the current campaign and in his last appearance was about two and a half lengths behind Tuscany in the Toboggan. Hyphasis dropped a nose decision in the Toboggan and prior to that was beaten narrowly by Indian Land in the Camden Handicap at Garden State. Jimmy Nichols will ride Squared Away, with Jess Higley scheduled to handle Hyphasis. War Phar was a three-time winner in Florida and in his lone appearance at Garden State he was beaten just a half length in the mud by Pacific Ocean, while carrying 124 pounds, 10 more than tomorrows assignment. The Duntreath team of Whiffen-poof and First Refusal also came from New Jersey; Giorgetti has shown nothing in two i starts in New York. Jess Linthicum and Sweet Vermouth have performed locally, with the former just one- length behind Senator Joe and Brazen Brat in his lone start of the year.
