Veeck Denies New Rumors That Browns Will Be Sold WASHINGTON, D. C, May 15 UP.— Bill Veeck said today his St. Louis Browns "are not for sale." "And make that as emphatic as you can," Veeck said in denying a new crop of rumors that the Browns are about to be sold, possibly to a group from the Falstaff Brewery. "At no time have I discussed a sale to Falstaff," he said. "I have no intention of discussing it with them, or any intention of selling. The Browns are not for sale." Veeck said he received a "courtesy" visit yesterday from a Baltimore group headed by Mayor Thomas DAllesandro who told him Baltimore still is interested in getting the Browns franchise. Asked about the possibility that the Browns might move to Baltimore next year, Veeck said: "Thats a long way off. Were worrying about St. Louis now, and about winning some ball games." In Baltimore, DAlesandro declined to give any details of his meeting with Veeck in Washington except to say it was "very satisfactory." Veeck tried to shift the Browns franchise to Baltimore for the 1953 season but his plan was voted down by other American League owners in a meeting at Tampa, Fla., March 16.
