i ; Defeat Referendum Bill SPRINGFIELD, 111., May 15.— A bill which called for referendums before pari-mutuel race meetings can be licensed in a county of 140,000 population was beaten by a 45-12 vote in the House of Representatives here yesterday. The bill was sponsored by Rock Island County members. The vote came after Rep. John W. Lewis R., Marshall said he would let his bills for county track pari-mutuel harness racing die in Senate committee. The House went along.
