Each Carries 119, Giving Rivals Up to Ten Pounds; Jeffords Sends Out Entry By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 15. — A band of 14 tough campaigners 1 has been named to participate in the 12th 1 running of the 0,000 added Valley Forge i Handicap here tomorrow, with high weight I honors in the mile and 70-yard fixture * shared by C. T. Chenerys Bryan G., D. J. « Schneiders Elixir and A. G. Vanderbilts i Indian Land. They will each shoulder 118 1 pounds, and attempt to concede their other rivals from four to 10 pounds. An interesting sidelight concerns the fact ] that Henry Moreno, who dealt the Vander- * bilt silks a crushing blow when he defeated Native Dancer while astride Dark Star in J the Kentucky Derby, will tomorrow ride Vanderbilts Indian Land, while Eric Guerin « remains in New York to pilot the gray Dancer in the Withers Mile. Indian Land, a four-year-old Tintagel colt, was a smashing come-from-behind I victor of the six-furlong Camden Handicap , | at the beginning of this meeting, and he may be favored for tomorrows event off of | that effort. He has shown improvement . with every outing this year and a victory tomorrow will place him as a strong chal- Ienger for top honors in the handicap ranks. The veteran Bryan G. has been gradually rounding into the form which made him a fearsome competitor in 1951 when he accounted for the Questionnaire. Aqueduct and Westchester Handicaps, and the Pim-lico Special. Following a dismal effort in which he finished last at New York, the six-year-old came back last week and finished second in a good sprint effort. Ovie Scur-lock, who has already made several profitable trips here, will be in the saddle. Elixir Victor in Hallandale Elixir easily won the Hallandale Handicap by four lengths over Joe Gavegnanos I Joey Boy in his last start, which was at Gulfstream Park. He similarly won his previous outing and was a rough customer in several of the winters stakes. The Bleu dOr gelding is reported in excellent condition and he will be ridden by Charlie Burr. The program here tomorrow is excellent, and the better performers are not restricted to the Valley Forge. The six-furlong Army Purse matches nine classy fillies and mares, including Darby Dan Farms Atalanta, Mrs. Marion OConnors La Corredora, and seven others. The King Ranchs promising Kamehameha will be favored to win the six-furlong fourth race, and the Horseshoe Stables Wolf Gal, second in the Fashion Stakes, will take precedence in the third. The Valley Forge is replete with rough customers right down to the lightweight of the field, who is the 1951 Kentucky Derby winner, J. J. Amiels Count Turf. Floyd H. Starks Assignment comes in from New York from an overnight triumph in which he defeated Belair Studs Golden Gloves by a length. The latter receives three pounds from that rival tomorrow. Maus and Skjevelands Flaunt was beaten off in that race, but some of his best efforts have been here in New Jersey. Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Post Card and Yildiz, who will perform as an entry, were third and fifth, respectively, in the Bowie Handicap, their last soritie, and both are stakes winners over this course in recent years. King Ranchs High Scud was particularly impressive making his 1953 debut in a sprint here a few days ago, and looms one of the real threats. Last year he set a track record in the Kent Stakes at Delaware Park. T. P. Morgans Grover B. was a clear cut victor at Suffolk Downs his last out, won three races at Santa Anita last winter and 10 races last year.
