HURLEY Staff Correspondent BEULAH PARK, Grove City, Ohio, May 23. — The record-breaking meeting at Beulah Park swings into the final week of the 18-day spring session with attendance up and mutuel play running ahead of last season by over 13 per cent. Under the progressive management of president Robert J. Dienst, Beulah is going forward steadily in its racing programs and track improvements and the racing fans of central Ohio are enthusiasticeally supporting such policies. Mondays eight-race program is headed by a six-furlong sprint for claimers who have not won two races in 1953 and has attracted eight sprinters who will vie for the major portion of the ,200 purse. D. Shades Bit OProse and E. Sorber s Ferol S. will probably attract most public support in the Carollos Steak House Purse, as the sprint has been titled, and these females will be opposed by Big Ike, Ruse, Our Yonkela, Storm of Gold, Llanton and Briars Red. Bit OProse is an appropriately named daughter of The Rhymer — Magic Charm, who was a recent winner at Beulah, under ! j I approximately the same conditions as she , faces on Monday. Bit OProse gets into J the race with 113 pounds, which is not an , excessive burden for the seven-year-old I mare to carry, Ferol S. has not carried the Sorber silks , to yictory this season, but must be held in I high esteem from her past records at the j Ohio tracks. The four-year-old filly has been a frequent winner in past seasons, and showed a flash or her quality in a J sprint the earlier part of last week. Owner -r trainer Sorber has the daughter of Foray r Array — Ocklawaha near her peak, and she , will be very difficult at 103 pounds with J W. D. Lucas scheduled to handle her. Big Ike has a strong chance to spring r the upset in the sprint, for should any of f the speedier members show signs of weakening, - this gelding will be a running horse ? f - ? at the end of the dash and may inject him- self into the picture.
