8#500 View Beulah Program; Hoot Mon Scores for Osborne BEULAH PARK, Grove City, Ohio, May 23. — Ideal May weather brought an estimated crowd of 8,500 racing fans out to view the fourteenth renewal of the Governors Handicap at this mile oval and early figures from the mutuel department indicated that new seasonal highs in wagering might be set before the day was over. Trainer Gale Osbore, who suffered most seriously in the recent stable fire at Beulah I Park when 12 head owned by him, perished, won his first race of the meeting in the days opener when Hoot Mon scored by a little better than two lengths over a slow race track to return 8.40. Hoot Mon was one of the eight Osborne runners who survived the holucast and had been purchased privately the night before the fire broke out. Leading rider J. C. Fernandez never permitted Hoot Mon to lag in his pursuit of the odds-on Ridgeflare. who was setting a torrid pace and the alertness paid off as the trying track took its toll of Ridgeflare. Osborne was the leading trainer at this spring meeting last season and ended, tied with Pete Maxwell in the fall for the same award. Gale was all smiles in the winners circle and everyone hoped that Dame Fortune had finally smiled on the Olney, TIL, horseman.
