HARDINESS closed ground after being slow to respond. VITAL showed an even effort. AIR QUEEN gave way after holding a favorable position to the stretch. COL. MARCUS displayed brief speed and quit. NATIVE DANCER saved ground while being rated within easy striking distance of the leaders, moved through on the inside of TAHITIAN KING to take over the runner-up position on the final turn, displaced DARK STAR entering the stretch and, after attaining a clear advantage, withstood the determined challenge of JAMIE K. The latter was allowed to race on his own courage early, moved smartly from the three-eighths pole, engaged the leader soon after being straightened for the drive, but was not good enough. ROYAL BAY GEM trailed early, responded when roused but was no threat to the top pair. RAM 0 WAR lacked the necessary qualities. DARK STAR was well rated while on the lead, held sway to the stretch and faltered badly. TAHITIAN KING pressed the early pace and gave way. CORRESPONDENT was through after about six furlongs.
