J. MURPHY WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, 111., Aug. 25. The Princess Pat Stakes, which if only 12 of the scheduled 15 starters go, will be the richest race for two-year-old fillies ever run, will hold the center of the stage here Wednesday afternoon. Should all 15 participate the race will gross 09,490 with, the winners share being 0,320. With ,000 to be deducted for each non-starter the gross with a dozen racers would still exceed that of the Arlington Lassie, now having the record purse for the category. The Lassie grossed 05,735. The winners share of the Lassie was 6,565 and that went to Queen Hc.eful, who will represent Hasty House Farm, in the Princess Pat. Queen Hopeful will break from outside post position in the six-furlong affair and will have John Adams as her rider. She will carry 119 pounds, the same as that with which Chorus Khal, winner of the Hollywood Lassie Stakes, will be imposted. Other stake winners in the field are Spy -Magic, who took a division of the Mademoiselle Stakes here, and Greek Lady, who finished in a dead heat with Queen Hopeful in the other division; Golly, who beat Spy Magic and Beanir infltf the Debutante at Churchill Downs, and Beanir, who won the Tomboy Stakes at Detroit. Clear Dawn Invader From East Also in the field are Clear Dawn, who came in from the East where she was third to Evening Out in the National Stallion; Cosentina, who was third to Queen Hopeful and Greek Lady in their division of the Mademoiselle; and Fleece, Wee Bonnie, Black Main, Jenjay, Peggy D., Gaylon and Joycenjudy.- Queen Hopeful, who spotted Greek Lady 12 pounds in the Mademoiselle, will be giving her but three in the Princess Pat, and stacks up as the likely favorite. The Queen, who cost ,800 as a yearling, in winning the Arlington Classic carried 119. In the Mademoiselle, she packed 122. In the Lassie, the Roman filly was a head in advance of Miz Clementine, who was the odds-on choice. Beanir was third, beaten less than one length; Cosentina was fourth, trimmed slightly over three lengths; Greek Lady was Continued on Page Forty -Three Fifteen Vie in 09,490 Princess Pat at Homewood Richest Juvenile Filly Stake Ever Run; Queen Hopeful Choice Continued from Page One fifth; Gaylon, sixth; Spy Magic, seventh; Jen jay, tenth; and Peggy D., eleventh. In Queen Hopefuls Mademoiselle tie with Greek Lady, Cosentina was beaten well over three lengths, while Chorus Khal was fourth; Jen jay, sixth; Beanir, eighth; and Peggy D., tenth. Beanir will have a jockey change from Steve Brooks to Eddie Arcaro. The track was muddy for the running of the Mademoiselle, and Queen Hopeful bumped Greek Lady during the stretch run. The pair ran the six-furlongs one-fifth of a second faster than did Spy Magic in the other division. It so happens that not one of the nine fillies that opposed Spy Magic are in the Princess Pat. Nominations for the Princess Pat closed last November 1 with 351 being named at 5 each. That is the largest number ever to be named for a juvenile filly stakes. Of those, 293 were kept eligible with a payment of 0 each February 2 and 195 of that number remained candidates by payment of 5 each May 1. Chorus Khal won the Nursery as well as the Lassie at Hollywood Park and is a California-bred owned by Rex Ellsworth. Spy Magic had two other successes prior to her Mademoiselle win and will be ridden by Layton Risley. She is owned by Clifford Mooers. Clear Dawn comes off two allowance race victories at Atlantic City, is owned by Darby Dan Farm and will be handled by Harrison B. Wilson, who journeyed here especially for the Princess Pat. Greek Lady is owned by Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Gilroy and was a 7,000 purchase as a yearling. Beanir is owned by Mrs. O. C. Neumann, and aside from the stakes mentioned, was second in the Pollyanna. Golly was ninth in the Pollyanna and will be ridden by Don Wagner. Wee Bonnie is the only unraced filly in the field. Jen-jay, Joycenjudy, Fleece, Black Main and Peggy D. have been racing in lesser company. Last season Miss Mary V. Fishers Fulvous won both the Arlington Lassie and the Princess Pat. Queen Hopeful has a chance to duplicate the feat this season.
