Quarter Million Building j Program On at Bel Air Two New Stables Being Built; Clubhouse Is Being Remodeled j HAGERSTOWN, Md., Aug. 25. Racegoers and horsemen alike will share the benefits of the many improvements made to the Bel Air race track, which will conduct its annual 10-day meeting from September 30 through October 10, through the completion of a 50,000 building program. Two new stables will provide up-to-the-minute accommodations for an additional 100 thoroughbreds and their caretakers. The new barns are located beyond the backstretch and are of a conventional type with enclosd walking rings and dormitories for grooms and exercise boys. The major improvement on the "front side" was the remodeling of the clubhouse, which is expected to relieve congestion in the main betting ring. Joined to the main mutuel department through an under ground passageway, a new "tote" department in the clubhouse annex will accommodate cashier and Daily Double windows. Also, many changes in the grandstand are expected to increase the racing pleasures of Bel Air racegoers. Through the construction of four concrete block buildings for rest rooms conveniently located throughout the stabling area Bel Air now offers .horsemen and their employes the most modern sanitary facilities of Marylands fair circuit. Each building provides hot and cold running water and shower baths. Last year Bel Air became the lone minor track in Maryland to provide the protection to the public afforded by film patrol cameras, which make movies of all events. The movie cameras were installed on a trial basis, and the results were such that permanent towers to house the cameras were built this season. The racing strip itself was completely resurfaced last fall. The new topsoil was permitted to settle and is now being worked into condition for the flying hoofs of the thoroughbreds.
