A Randall Features Canton Day Purse Nine to Contest Issue Over Mile, One-Sixteenth Today; Hartack on Favored Irrisor By RONALD KRANCER Staff Correspondent RANDALL PARK, North Randall, Ohio, Aug. 25. The Canton Day Purse at one mile and one-sixteenth is the feature attraction on Wednesdays well-balanced nine-race program here at Randall Park. The feature has drawn a field of nine including the Anthony Graffagnini coupling of Scairt Rabbit and McCreight. Slated to face that duo are R. Langsdorf s Royal Charles, Alex Bruscinos Country Gossip, W. L. Huntleys Color Guard, Mrs. Jane P. Kriegers Irrisor, Mrs. Daniel Marzanis Red Flush, George R. Watkins Mrs. G. R., and Mr. and Mrs. J. Philips Hi Joe. Under the conditions of the race, Irrisor will carry 107 pounds including apprentice William Hartack and that will make a hard combination to beat. Irrisor, a three-year-old gelded son of Hoop, Jr., has come into his own since arriving here from Delaware Park and has won three races in five local appearances. This will be the first time at the meeting that the Krieger colorbearer has gone over six furlongs, but the manner in which he has been drawing clear in the final furlong of most of his races certainly gives an indication that the gelding will go on. His last race was his best of the summer when he defeated Shady Nook by four lengths moving up boldly from the extreme outside on the final bend and wresting command in the early stretch. Servis on Color Guard Color Guard, to be ridden by Joe Servis and scheduled to carry 114 pounds, will draw a good portion of the mutuel play. Trainer Don Yates has the Occupy colt in top condition at present and he will be seeking his second tally of the year. In his last appearance he was second to Heutel, beaten a length and one-half going a mile and one-sixteenth. In that race, Color Guard lacked his usual late rally, but was still much the best of the others. Before1 1 that he came from next to last position in a 13 -horse field to win at six furlongs in one of the best races of the meeting. Servis took his mount to the extreme outside and closing like the "wind" bested Miss Degree by a length and one-half. As late as the final turn, Color Guard was 10 lengths back and at the furlong marker was almost six lengths back of the pacesetter. Country Gossip last ran in the Great Lakes Stakes on Saturday and finished well back of Mr. Skip, the winner. Country Gossip raced close to the pace along with McCreight in that race, but tired badly when the real racing began. Country Gossip has run several good races at the meeting and off one of his better performances would have an excellent chance of scoring for trainer Stanley Lipiec. The locally-owned runner will probably be ridden by Louis Syfrig and is slated to carry 105 pounds providing an apprentice is in the pilots seat. The Graffagnini entry would have to show some improvement to appear "on the board" following the Canton. McCreight came here with an excellent record compiled while at Hawthorne, but thus far at Randall Park he has been quite a disappointment to his connections.
