Three Grays Among Eight In Fairmount Offering j Persaltum Likely Favorite in Hannibal; Candidate Is Threat j By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS j Staff Correspondent FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville. 111., Aug. 25. The six-furlong Hannibal Purse . will feature the eight-race program to be conducted under the full moon here j Wednesday night, bringing together a field ! of eight shifty performers. Three ghostly gray horses will be in the starting line-up j including E. D. Reeds Persaltum, who is the likely favorite. j Ed C. Buntings Candidate, who is top- ! weighted with 110 pounds, will be a close j rival for the publics fancy, with E. G. Ma- j honeys Kissable, C. M. Clear and H. R. i Finleys Tour dArgent and Mrs. C. Greenes ! Double Barrel also figuring prominently. 1 Candidate was a beaten favorite in his 1 last appearance 10 days ago, placing a close ! third behind Scotch Town and Persaltum. That was his lone outing since arriving 1 from River Downs, where his better efforts would again give ham a call over this field. The six-year-old son of Bleu dOr has an excellent turn of early speed and jockey 1 Gerald Schreck will attempt to have him I away in front. ! The gray Persaltum closed with a rush of , speed from last place at the head of the stretch to gain a short advantage over Candidate at the finish of their encounter here, and he profits by a four-pound shift in weight with his rival tomorrow. Persaltum came back from this effort, which was his first of the summer season, and was a beaten choice in the Forest Park Purse on Friday night. Outrun in the early stages, in his usual style, the Boer War colt appeared capable of wearing down the leaders, but Kenneth Robertson lost his whip passing the furlong marker and Persaltum then refused to gain under hand urging. Robertson will be out to make amends, riding at 112 pounds. j Kissable, a veteran daughter of Challe-don, is nicely spotted with 104 pounds, which includes a seven-pound apprentice allowance for the services of Robert Gorman. She won her last two races here during the spring meeting and displayed good speed returning to action last week. Kissable could not reach the front in that five and one-half furlong dash and weakened to finish fourth, but she drops seven "pounds off of that effort and has an excellent. chance to tour the course in front of this band. Tour dArgent, a swift filly making an invasion from western racing, had a bit of tough luck in her only race here and could improve. Double Barrel could be dangerous, but he seems to be off his form, as does Clevelander, who recently arrived from Washington Park.
