Pass Play Ties Atlantic Turf Mark Victor by Length 1 Over Buck n Gee Covers Mile and Sixteenth Of Feature Event in 1:44; Show Honors Go to Abidjan By FRED GALIANI ATLANTIC CITY, Mays Landing, N. J., Aug. 25. B. L. Williams Pass Play equaled the mile and a sixteenth turf course mark of 1:44 this afternoon when he scored a length victory in the featured Late Date Purse. Coming from off the pace, the chestnut colt came between horses at the head of the stretch and went on to triumph over H. B. Cohens Buck n Gee. Guy de la Fregonnieres Abidjan came from last to finish third, a length and a quarter back of Buck n Gee and just a neck before Kay-Gee Stables Go a Bit. Mrs. Janet N. Kellys Ride M Cowboy, the favorite, wound up next to last in the field of seven. Pass Play was ridden by Robert L. Stevenson and paid 5.20, scoring his second straight victory at the track. The weather was on the humid side, but a good- sized crowd of 21,041: attended the sport. Pass Play, a son of Pass Out Little Neck, scored his sixth victory in 15 starts this afternoon and this marked his first appearance over the turf. He handled, himself well over it. Of the seven starters, only Ride M Cowboy and Go a Bit are nominees for the Philadelphia. Turf Handicap, three-year-old grass stakes here. The latter finished fourth in the Late Date. Two Draw Out Abidjan and Go a Bit gradually outran the rest of the field, past the stands the first time and by the time they had gone into titie turn, had drawn out from the rest of them and were going along heads apart. Ride M Cowboy was running fourth around the turn, behind Harass. Going down the far-side, the two leaders continued on their way, while Ride M Cowboy dropped back to have only Nebullus beaten, while Pass Play and Buck n Gee both entered into contention, moving behind the pacemaking pair. . - As they came around the turn for home, Pass Play came between Buck n Gee, who was on the far outside, and Abidjan after a short brush, drew out from the quartet to score by a length. Buck n Gee gained second place from his outside position, while Abidjan necked out Go Bit for third. Charley Burr duplicated Williams feat of yesterday when he scored with both his mounts in the first two races, the Daily Double return being good for 05.00. Burr won the opener with Mrs. C. A. Copes Mink Gal, 5.80, and came right back with Kencal Stud Farms Dinner Winner, 2.60. The stands were well packed with women, Tuesday being Ladies Day at the Shore track, and the fair sex took advantage of the benefits, turning out in large numbers. Charlie Burr scored his third winner of ther afternoon in the seventh race on Potato Chip Farms Wise Market, which was also the fifth horse to score from post No. 1 during the day. Only Rates Best, in the third, and Pass Play, in the sixth race, won from positions other than the rail slot.
