j Chicago Cardinals Release Four Players, Sign Up Two The Chicago Cardinals announced yesterday the release of four first year men and the signing of two national league veterans. Let go were Vince Birra, a tackle who played college ball at Lafayette; Joe Schichilone, a guard from Georgia; Joe Makarewicz, a halfback from Drake and Ogden Compton, a quarterback from Hardin Simmons. Compton was called into the Army and goes on the Cardinal re-w serve list. - i The Cardinals signed Bill Weeks, former-Iowa State quarterback from the Philadelphia Eagles and Keever Jankovich, veteran Baltimore Colts center who played for the College of Pacific.
