New England Notes NARRAGANSETT PARK, Pawtucket, R. I., Aug. 26. Trainer M. J. Bresnahan, Jr., has engaged Vernon Bush to handle Domquil in Saturdays ,500 feature: Owner-trainer George R. Handy of Riverside, R. I., registered with 18 head this morning, the string including the horses of Mrs. Handy and a pair belonging to the Woolford Farm. Agent Billy McKay has taken over the booking engagements for the veteran rider Leo Valdes for the duration of the meeting. Bobby Strange, injured during a spill at the summer meeting here, was a visitor Monday and while still wearing a body brace reports that he will be able to return to saddle duty in about a month. Trainer Clay Sutphin vanned in six head from Salem, N. H., this morning headed by By Jeepers, second in the Manchester Purse and. a nominee for the Newport, and Connors Memorial. i Bill Trundle, member of racing secretary Ty Sheas staff at Garden State, is filling in as placing judge for Henry Carroll. The latter, who will return next week, is currently fulfilling his duties- as racing secretary at Hagerstown, Md. About 150 members of the Home Builders Association of Rhode Island will hold their annual outing at Gansett on Thursday and the affair will include a luncheon and a get-together preceding the days races. The track management will name a race in their honor. A special trophy will be presented to the winning owner and jockey by Anthony Viola, president of the organization. John Dupuy, trainer of the Bar-Sue Stable horses, has left for a two weeks visit with his family in New Orleans. During his absence the Bar-Sue charges will be handled by Sam McCresnky. Homer Pardue returned for the 24-day session, shipping in eight head .from Saratoga. The Pardue horses checked were No Cares, Red Hannigan, Red Warbler, Mr. Majority, Hiram Jr., Del Tex Maid, Forny and Miss Marilee. Jack Howard, formerly in charge of the-saliva box at Gansett, returned as trainer of the Janori Fisher string. The group in cluded Dawn Flight, vanned in from Atlantic City, and Fidgety and Collision, brought in from Fishers "farm in Maryland. T. W. Reardon registered three head, Descentive, Saugatuck and Nutmeg Lad. The thoroughbreds were shipped in from the Jay Cee Farm at Red Bank, N. J. Max White, newly elected vice-president of the New England division of the Horsemens Benevolent and Protective Association succeeding Irving Gushen, was among the early visitors at Gansett Tuesday carrying on his duties. Fred Wyse, Houston, Texas, sportsman, has a pair of two-year-old fillies in training here that have been sired by Air Rate, the popular and speedy handicap star who was a familiar campaigner in past Gansett meetings.
