DARK THEATRE moved up strongly on the inside after entering the stretch to take a clear lead an eighth out and, responding well in the drive, held PIELETTAWAY to win narrowly. The latter was outrun for a quarter, then came to the outside to finish strongly well out -from the rail and Just failed to get up. DEEP WONDER was unable to outrun DARK MOOR in the first part and dropped back as if beaten nearing the stretch turn but continued well thereafter. K. LEAH raced wide throughout and showed speed in spots. TOP AGAIN tired" after getting to the front nearing the stretch turn. DARK MOOR was through early. PATS VALENTINE stopped badly. OFF AT 2:33 CENTRAL DAYLIGHT TIME. Start good from stall gate. Won driving; second and third the same. UNIZANO, off rather slowly, was in close quarters around the first turn and forced to ease back. He did not become a contender until the eighth when he moved resolutely to find an opening in the middle of the pack near the end and be up in the final strides. VEZLARK made a strong run on the extreme outside through the stretch and was going well at the end. CLEAR SWEEP was in some early difficulty but also finished strongly. MUCHO FRIO, a forward contender from the start held on well. BLUE ETERNITY and SON ROCK were used up in the first five furlongs and had little left. BIGTIME GAL was in close quarters on the inside in the first half mile. REBOUNDER was shut off in the stretch when tiring. Overweight Vezlark, 5 pounds; Blue Eternity, 21; Line Drive, 3. FUTURE REWARD was close enough to the pace in the early running and coming in full stride through the last eighth under hard urging wore down DOCTOR McCABE to catch him in the last thirty yards and win drawing out. DOCTOR McCABE had fine early speed but had something, removed withstanding early challenges and was unable to resist the winner. ETERNAL QUEST although unable to keep up with DOCTOR McCABE, held a forward place to the last sixteenth, then began to falter. PAYTU weakened in the stretch. PRINCE MARQUE raced wide and failed to offer serious contention. ETERNAL WILL began slowly, then rushed up on the outside nearing the stretch turn to loom as a possiblity only to stop badly in the final eighth. - FOURTH RACE 1 1-16 MILES turf course. BRECON BEACONS was held under restraint for the first half mile, then moved strongly on the outside and bested WRANGLER under hard urging. The latter closed up strongly after entering the stretch and took a short lead in the last sixteenth, but was unable to last DRUIDS LYRICS got through on the inside of THE WENCH around the far turn to open up a good lead when straightened out for home, but tired in the final drive. PETES VIGIL failed to be a strong contender. BABY BATTLER had fair early speed, but weakened in the final test. DEPAL tired. THE WENCH bore out badly while making the pace in the first half mile and dropped out of it in the stretch. ROSAMUNDA U. bled. Overweight Rosamunds 11., 4 pounds. FIVE STAR GEN. went to the front when BLENDED began to .tire nearing the stretch turn, saved ground in the stretch and held on fairly well. BREAKERS made a good "move on the outside nearing the final turn, then weakened in the drive. TOMI BLU stumbled at the start, but retained a forward place to the stretch, then weakened. SWAMP SON, off alertly, was well placed early and moving forward to catch RIGMAROLE after entering the stretch, went strongly to the end to ,hold WAR TEDDY. The latter was never far removed and found an opening between horses in the last sixteenth to be pressing the winner. DICTIONARY saved ground while being outrun early and was gaining on the leaders at the end. PUBLICK was never too far away and made a fair move after entering the stretch but tired in the Jast sixteenth. WOODBREAK closed ground in the stretch. QUEEN HOPEFUL was off well and was close up on the outside in the early part, then was taken in slightly during the far turn when some of the pacemakers raced wide and, moving up nearing the last turn, set out after CHORUS KHAL in the stretch to wear her down and, getting to the front an eighth out, slowly increased her advantage thereafter. CHORUS KHAL had fine early speed and drew clear nearing the stretch turn, then saved ground in the run home and went in courageous fashion to the end, but was not god enough. CLEAR DAWN, racing on the inside, was in rather tight quarters around the far turn and dropped back, then came again and, while not threatening the first two, turned in a creditable effort. COSENTINA lacked early speed, but came steadily through the stretch and was racing well at the end. GREEK LADY was slow to start and was badly outrun to the stretch, then came strongly and was racing well at the end. JENJAY moved up in the stretch and went fairly well thereafter. . BEANIR was on the outside of four horses rounding the far turn and raced quite wide, then continued rather vide to the stretch turn and weakened thereafter. GOLLY and FLEECE tired badly. ROMAN BATH had the most speed out of the gate, was easily headed by INDIAN HILL when the latter was ready and tired in the stretch. His rider claimed a foul against INDIAN HILL, stating the latter had interfered with his mount around the far turn. The claim was not allowed. LANCER, a good contender throughout, appeared to be jostled slightly by ALTRUISTIC, an eighth out, then held on gamely in the final drive and just missed. The stewards called an inquiry but upon examination of the photographs the original placing was allowed to stand. SON CHUCK dropped too far out of it early and, although cutting to the rail atwmidstretch and finishing fast, was Unable to menace the first two. MOFLAME finished fairly well on the outside.
