Seven Sprinters Compete In Best Fairmount Race Dandy G. Favored Despite High Weight Allotment of 1 19 Pounds By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, 111., Aug. 26. Overcoming a rather slow beginning, this meeting of 27 programs Thursday night settles into the second half of its operations in full bloom and rating complete satisfaction in every aspect. The Lake Forest Purse heading Thursday nights card was drafted as an "extra race" by racing secretary Jack Klucina with a purse increased" in value to ,800. It attracted a small, but highly competitive group of seven sprinters who will test their speed at five and one-half furlongs. Probable favorite is Silver Creek Farms Dandy G., a six-year-old Valdina Dandy gelding who will be ridden under a high-weight assignment of 119 pounds that requires him to give away from eight to 15 pounds to his opponents. " Dandy G. failed in the role of choice his last time out a couple of weeks ago, but he was not discredited by the effort. All Tilly saved ground to draw clear of him in the stretch, but he remained a generous margin in front of Babys Delight, another speed merchant who returned to defeat some of the best here last Saturday in the East St. Louis Handicap. M. Whitebrooks Bat Girl, with Earl Van Hook as her rider, is one of the strongest threats and just last year would have "tow-roped" this calibre company. The seven-year-old mare, a cast-off of the Helis Stock Farm, faltered when unable to reach the front early in the East St. Louis Handicap, but in the weeks previous edition of the St. Louis Handicap she provided the only contention for Obstinate Si and chased him all the way to finish second. Q. and H. C. Veachs Miss Crossbow consistently displays quick foot away from the gate and has only 104 pounds to burden here due to a five-pound apprentice allowance claimed for Terry Murphy. She finished second here last week. Mey-Well Acres Farms Lady of Time also is usually a "gun" getting away, but was a disappointment in her last trip. Susanne Stables Dr. Felix has not been showing his best form, whiel the two remaining could be dangerous, but have both, been defeated recently by the top members of the field. They are James C. Ellis Dream OMoley and William C. Weant Dixie Mas.
