Athletics Trip White Sox As Richards Files" Protest By the United Press Dave Philley got two triples and a home run yesterday to pace the Philadelphia Athletics to a 10 to 8 victory over the Chicago White Sox in a game played by the Sox under protest after 3 1-3 innings. Philleys eighth, inning homer was followed -by a homer into the second deck right field stands by Eddie Robinson, but the White Sox cause was already lost. Philadelphia starter -Alex Kellner gave up 13 hits but was given the win. Chicagos starting pitcher Mike Fornieles had a perfect game going into the top of the fourth, but an Umpires decision gave Philley a triple, starting Fornieles to the showers and the As to victory. Fornieles leaped for Philleys hit and it appeared the ball, plus the pitchers momentum, pulled the glove from his hand. Chico Carrasquel recovered the ball and threw to first fort what would have been the out. However, second base umpire Bill Summers ruled that Fornieles threw his glove at. the hit ball and gave Philley a triple. Chicago manager Paul Richards entered an official protest on the call.
