TexasTurfman Purchases 5 ! Nine Aga Khan Yearlings 5 Six Colts, Three Fillies Will Be Flown to United States Shortly By NELSON DUN STAN NEW YORK, N. Y., May 13.— One of the e most important bloodstock transactions of *| | recent years was effected a few days ago ; when Ralph Lowe of Midland, Texas, purchased from the Aka Khan six top colts and three beautifully bred fillies. The horses were selected by Humphrey S. Finney, president of the Fasig-Tipton Company, !j~ and Dr. D. L. Proctor of Lexington, Ky. The horses will be flown to the United d States within a few days and sent to O Crown Crest Farm of Mr. and Mrs. Howard d Reineman at Lexington for a period before "e being broken and trained by Williard L. k- Proctor, who has the Lowe racing stable at Hollywood Park. Lowe has been racing lg for several years and at the dispersal sale le of the horses of the late Mrs. F. Ambrose 5e Clark, he paid 2,000 for Pictus. In purchasing the Aga Khan yearlings, no price *e was made public, but when we examined the pedigrees of those selected it was obvious ~ that the cost to the Texas oilman was substantial. Finney informed this writer ~T that the Aga Khan will not be a consignor l~ to the Saratoga sales in August. The yearlings purchased are as fol- »" Coniinued en Page four ,. ,4mJ mmnmm, Sires and Dams *—■ By Nelson Dunstan ■ I Aga Khan Will Not Sell at Saratoga Texan Ralph Lowe Buys Nine Yearlings Tulyars Full Brother in Transaction Continued from Page On* lows: B. c, by Tehran, out of Cama, by Nearco, out of a winner of five stakes, second dam Queen of Scots, stakes-winning dam of five stakes winners; a b. e, by ,. ,4mJ Abernant, Abernant, out out of of Cassiope, Cassiope, by by Hy- Abernant, Abernant, out out of of Cassiope, Cassiope, by by Hy- Hyperion, a stake winner, second dam won the 1,000 Guineas and three other stakes and produced four stakes winners; a b. c, by Royal Charger, out of Clovelly, by Mah-moud, half-brother to nine winners, including four stake winners; a b. c, by Migoli, out of Majideh, by Mahmoud, half-brother to the brilliant Masaka, who sold for 05,000, out of a winner winner of of the the Irish Irish 1,000 1,000 Guineas Guineas mmnmm, winner winner of of the the Irish Irish 1,000 1,000 Guineas Guineas and Oaks; a ch. c, by Tehran, out of Neocracy, by Nearco, brother to Tulyar, first three dams good stake winners; a gr. c, by Palestine, out of Queen of Baghdad, by Bahram, half-brother to Noor and four other stake winners, second dam stake winning dam of four Stake winners; a br. f , by Nearco, out of Bodala, by Bois Roussel, out of a stake winner, second dame a stake winning sister to Bahram and dam of four stake winners; a ch. f, by Prince Chevalier, out of Mbale, by Big Game, out of half-sister to Mahmoud and six other stake winners: a b. f, by Bois Roussel, out of Stafaralla, by Solario, sister to Tehran, out of a stake winner who produced five stake winners. Among Finest Imported Crops It is not an exaggeration to say that this is one of the finest groups of yearlings ever brought to this country. On pedgiree, the outstanding colt is the chestnut by Tehran, out of Neocracy, by Nearco, thus a full brother to the sensational Tulyar, the greatest money winner in British turf history. Today Tulyar is regarded as one of the best race horses the modern Britsh turf has produced and at the end of his career he was sold to the Irish Government far 00,000. His sire, Tehran, is by Bois Roussel, who sold for 60,-000. Tehran was bred by the Aly Khan in the second year of the war, 1941. War-time opportunities and stakes were limited. He won the New St. Leger at Newmarket. The dam, Neocracy, was bred by the late Peter Beatty and was sold privately as a yearling to the Aly Khan. Her best performance was that in winning the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. f In 1052, the Aka Khan sold his first crop of yearlings at Saratoga, 20 head bringing a total of 73,500. - Many of the buyers were prominent in racing and breeding and this was a factor in the Moslem rulers decision to offer 21 head in 1953 and for which he realised 70,600, a slight drop in average from the previous year. One of the remarkable details of the 1953 season was that four fillies topped all the colts in price and one of these was a bay by Bois Roussel, out of Btbigeg. This miss brought a final bid of 9,000 from Daniel G. Van Chef of Nydrie Stud in Virginia. A year ago, the Aga Khan shipped 23 yearlings here for the Fasig-Tipton sale and they were generally considered superior to the two previous consignments. They sold for 61,700, or a grand total of 05,800 for the three crops sent to this country. Of the 64 lots over the three-year period, 20 brought over 0,000. In 1954, the bidding for these superbly bred colts and fillies was marked by some of the keenest duels ever heard at the Spa ringside. This group embraced youngsters by Tehran, Royal Charger, Bois Roussel, Nearco, Tudor Minstrel, Dante, Souverain and other stations who aided the Aga Khan in writing one of the most colorful chapters in racing and breeding since the British turf was founded in the long ago. Await Tudorkas First Start A year ago, Miss Eleonora Sears of Prides Crossing created a sensation when she went to 5,000 to purchase a bay colt by Tudor Minstrel, out of Neocracy, a half-brother to Tulyar, and also to the colt purchased by Lowe. This price tied the Saratoga record made in 1928 when the Eastland Farm Syndicate bid that sum for a colt by Whisk Broom n., later named New Broom. This colt was a keen disappointment when sent to the races. Miss Sears named the Tudor Minstrel — Neocracy colt, Tudorka, and to date he has not started. The Sears colt, however, was not the top price of the year, for a new American record was created when, at Keeneland, the Texas syndicate headed by F. J. Adams paid 6,000 for a chestnut colt by Nasrullah, out of Lurline B., the daughter of Alibhai, who was a winner of the Santa Margarita Handicap at Santa Anita. Tul-year is now standing at the Irish National Stud, but we have two of Neocracys colts in this country, along with many of the finest bred youngsters from the Irish stud Of the Aga Khan.
