Beginning of a New Era AN EDITORIAL 1 Balmorals opening on Monday heralds the beginning of a new era in midwestern racing. It completes what could very well be called Chicagos "Triple Crown" of race courses, joining those other tried and true stalwarts of the turf, Arlington Park and Washington Park. Balmoral is to operate for 30 days, thus assuring Windy City patrons 16 continuous weeks of superlative sport. The new owners of Lincoln Fields — now known as Balmoral — are responsible businessmen who are interested in only one thing: to give midwestern fans the finest racing possible. By becoming associated with Ben Lindheimer, head of Arlington and Washington, they are now in a position to offer first-class sport in a first-class setting. The addition of 30 days of quality racing will prove a magnet for many of the nations leading stables, bringing to the Chicago area numerous top-rank establishments which have never campaigned there before. The Balmoral Jockey Clubs excellent stakes program will be followed by even richer attractions at Arlington and Washington. This newspaper wishes to congratulate Balmorals officers on their good judgment and Chicago fans on their good fortune.
