The track record will receive a standard rating of 100 — thus, a horse equaling the record will have a speed rating of 100. For each one-fifth second slower than the track record, one point is deducted. Therefore, the rating for a horse running his race two and one-fifth seconds slower than the track record receives a speed rating of 89 100 minus 11. EXAMPLE Track record 1:10 Ratine figure 100 Winners time l-.lOVs Rating 99 Time of second horse 1:10% 97 Time of third horse 1:11 95 Time of fourth horse 1:11% »S Time of fifth horse 1:11% 91 One point the equivalent of one-fifth second* is deducted from the ratine for each length the horse is beaten. Thus, a horse beaten four lengths in a six-furlong race run in 1:11 rating of 100 where the track record is 1:10 is -Mn timed in 1:11%, receiving a speed rating of 91. Where a horse breaks the track record, his speed ratine will exceed the standard rating of 100 by one point for each one-fifth second faster than the track record. Thus* if the record is 1:10 and a horse hi timed in 1:09%, his speed rating will be ltand The new record then becomes the standard 100. ** ,
