THE SPANIEL drifted out on the first turn, improved his position steadily to be in front in the early stretch, then withstood the challenge of JERRYS BEST. The latter, on the extreme outside rounding the first turn, hung after reaching the leader. NOSTREBOR wrested command leaving the backstretch, held a clear advantage briefly on the final turn and weakened. SIGNOR SAM M. wore down tired horses. DOCTOR DICK was carried out by THE SPANIEL early and showed nothing. BUTTON SHOES was through early. WAR POINTER set and pressed the pace for five furlongs and flattened out.
