Program Two Handicaps At ThistleDown Today Northern Ohio Series No. 2 and Quickie to Engage Good Fields By J. R. BATTY Staff Correspondent THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 3. — Racing might be conducted over a fast track Saturday, if the weather remains unchanged, and the management should entertain a large crowd. This meeting opened Thursday a week ago with a muddy strip and "good" footing prevailed for the other two big days since, those being last Saturday and Monday, which was a holiday-Posted to attract racing enthusiasts from the eastern sector of Ohio are a pair of handicaps. Nine races are carded and the two features hold down the seventh and ninth race spots on the bill. First of the handicaps to be decided is a dash of six furlongs. A half dozen accepted the weights assigned them on Thursday. Admitting three-year-old and older horses, this speed test is named the Quickie Handicap and offers a purse of ,000. The other handicap is the Northern Ohio Series No. 2. As the title indicates, theman-agement has set up two series of route races spaced over the 44-day meeting. The plan proved popular with horsemen and public alike in past seasons and tomorrows race should live up to standard. Ten routers are named overnight to compete at one and one-eighth miles in the N. O. S. No. 2. A ,000 prize is attached. Comprising the field are Court Shannon, Suits n Pants, Iforu, Gailsig, Solar Bid, Everest, Play Request, Close Play, Chiloe n., and Legal Time. Court Shannon is high-weight of the group under 118 pounds while Suits n Pants is lowest burdened with 108 pounds, indicating this is a rather evenly matched band of distance performers. Legal Time Two-Time Ascot Winner Chiloe II., just missed to Excel in Ascots 1955 renewal of the two-mile Ascot Gold Cup and Everest was next at the finish line. Court Shannon, at long odds, captured the race preceding the Gold Cup. Legal Time won a pair of races at the Cuyahoga Falls plant and might be a stout contender in this contest. The field in the Quickie is made up of Degree, 112; Mor-Snodzey 113; Solar System, 118; Junes Bug, 111; Wolf Gal, 112, and Lot-O-Bim, 112. Another contest which should provide interesting sport is the eighth race in which Timely Tip is one of eight entrants who will vie at one mile for a purse of ,500. Timely Tip, winner of ThistleDowns Ohio Derby last year, is scheduled to oppose Colonel Fru, Mr. Dink, The Butcher, Slinker and the coupling of Brandys Last and Euclid.
