Alberta Ranches Unit Arrives at Washington Filly In Reserve Heads String; St. Vincent to Be Along Later WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, HI., June 3. — A small but strong band of thoroughbreds owned -by Alberta Ranches,. Ltd., and trained by Vance Longden, was bedded down at Washington Park today, ready to shoot at the rich prizes remaining on the Balmoral-Arlington-Washington schedule. Missing -from the string, which shipped in from New, York, was the record-breaking St. Vincent, English-bred grass specialist. Longderi* said St. Vincent was left in the East to rest thoroughly from, his Memorial Day appearance in the Suburban at Belmont Park. "That race took a lot out of him," Longden vsaid, "and Im hoping to fly the horse to Washington Park in a week or so. His ankle was a little hot after the race, and were just being cautious." "After all," he continued, "theres a lot of big grass racing at Washington Park and Arlington Park, and thats what were here for." Longden also stated that his three-year-old filly, In Reserve, was in the shipment from New York and would be aimed at "all the filly-and-mare stakes we can find here." In Reserve, an offspring of Noor — Abeyance, already has won the Santa Ynez Stakes, and finished third in_the La Cen-tinela Stakes at Santa Anita. Also in the Alberta contingent were three three-year-olds — Fraser Valley, Playoff and Bright Night — and a four-year-old, Racing Review. Bright Night, is a new arrival from Ireland, while Fraser Valley and Playoff, both bred in England by the National Stud, are in their second year of competition. Fraser Valley broke his maiden May 26 at Belmont, going a mile and an eighth in 1:52%. Bright Night is expected to make his first American start either at Balmoral or at the Arlington Park meeting, which gets under way June 20.
