— — 4 Nine in Allowance Test at River Downs Ziggity Meets Spy Defense And Snow Waye Again Today In Six-Furlong Offering By W. A. CRUSE Staff Correspondent RIVER DOWNS, Cincinnati, Ohio, June 3. — The second Saturday of this 44-day meeting promises to shatter all existing records with the attractive nine-race card arranged by racing secretary Lawrence Bo-genschutz. Though the original handicap, the Queen City, failed to fill, an allowance test was drawn up as one of the extra races and the ,500 purse drew nine of the more fleet-footed campaigners to accept the issue. The distance of the event is six furlongs, the same as the Inaugural and once again R. S. Hildebrands Ziggity will be the one to beat. In the feature attraction on opening day, this Warlock gelding stepped the distance in 1:11% and that time has not been beaten to date, giving him the record for the fastest six panels of the meeting, though still two and two-fifths of a second off the track record set by Clang on October 12, 1935. Ziggity was ridden by jockey O. Headley and Tiad nine and one-half lengths to the good as he crossed the . wire. | Ideal Weather Predicted Arbywood Stables Spy Defense and Fischer and Fruchtmans Snow Waye were in his wake that day and the fact that the track was drying out and classed as good may have had considerable bearing on that long margin of victory. From all present indications the weatherman will supply ideal weather for the program tomorrow and if the strip remains in the present condition, and it is lightning fast, there are several of the group to be considered for a major portion .of the laurels. Others in the line-up, and with a great deal less of the poundage to be carried by Ziggity, are E. Rinaldis Naomi, Creel Browns Brownie Lady; W. F. Scotts Bill i Pac, the Midwest Stables Ella "Villa, the Char Mar Farms Our Temper and H. V. Courtneys Lucky Tim. Bill Pac turned in a rather dull effort over a slow race track in the Memorial Day Purse. The strip, however,-for that feature attraction was decidedly slow and evidently much to the liking of the winner. King Phalanx. The good looking Billings gelding, however, has campaigned with some of the more impressive performers in the Chicago area and the hard, fast track may move him up considerably.
