Make Ready Registers at Odds On Five of First Seven Favorites Triumph Dixiana Colt Takes Measure Of Munchausen at Balmoral; Montenegrin Scores by Neck WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, HI., June 3. — Favorites won four of the first six races here this afternoon, and the most heavily backed thoroughbred on the program was one of them. That -was Dixianas good three-year-old colt, Mae Ready, who took the measure of Munchausen, Blue Lem and four others in the featured Karl Eitel Purse, sixth event on the bill. Ridden by Steve Brooks, Make Ready came from last place in the early running to register by a half-length in winning his second straight decision here. He paid but and ran the one-mile distance in 1:36. Charlies Gem, an outsider, set the early pace, with Munchausen in closest proximity, and the latter took over entering the stretch to open up a three-length margin. He held on gamely when Make Ready challenged near the end and might have been victorious at equal weights. Munchausen carried 122 to Make Readys 113. Blue Lem, who finished second to Nashua in the Florida Derby, was making his Balmoral bow and ran a good, race. He lacked early speed, but was gaining on the leaders at the end and will most certainly be a threat atthe longer distances. The attendance Friday was 8,536 and the track was fast. Montenegrin Scores in Sprint The five-year-old Montenegrin, with jockey Raymond Camp up, defeated a fair field of runners in the fifth race, which was at seven furlongs. No Return, an outsider, made the pace and saved ground in the stretch, while Montenegrin was racing wide, but the latter was up in time to score by a neck. Golden Admiral, the favorite, weakened after reaching a prominent place at the stretch head. Montenegrin was the second choice. Hasty House Farms three-year-old importation, Summer Solstice, made good at the first asking in this country when he won the seventh race. He was the fifth public choice of the afternoon to click and it was John Adams second winner of the day. Summer Solstice was off slowly and raced greenly, but was good enough to overpower his rivals in the stretch and win by a half-length from River Gate, an outsider. His time for six furlongs on the turf was 1:12. Night Intruder, beaten favorite last time out, graduated in his seventh start when he easily won the opener for maiden two-year-olds. The black son of War Relic was ridden by Billie Fisk and drew the most support in the five-furlong contest. Madeira, the second choice, finished second. Charon, a three-year-old who had started but twice prior to today, broke out of the maiden ranks in the third and completed a 1.00 Daily Double. With Johnny Adams in the saddle, Charon came down the rail to register over the favored Under-grad in the 12-horse field. The distance was. six furlongs. Valaire was the second favorite of the afternoon to score. He won the third race oyer Fauroyal. It was a one mile contest and Valaire, piloted by John Heckmann, came from behind to turn the trick. Maiden three-year-olds competed and it was Valaires tenth start. The Royal Gem II. two-year-old Doc Eggers remained unbeaten when he was an easy winner over 10 other two-year-olds in the fourth. They were going five furlongs and the result was never in doubt after Doc Eggers got to the front. It was his second start and he was ridden by William Carstens and was the *third public choice of the afternoon to reward. His time was a creditable :58%.
