Pinetxim Gains Decision In Three-Horse Photo Downs Skeeter II., Gallito In Delawares Bed r/ Roses Purse DELAWARE-PARK, Stanton, Del., June 3. — After the. entire five-horse field had raced heads apart across the track into the homestretph, Hal Price Headleys Pinetum, Arthur H. Bowens Skeeter TJ. and William •Ewings Gallito continued their battle to the wire to finish as named in a three-horse photo this afternoon in the featured Bed o Roses Purse. The margin between the top pair after a mile and one-sixteenth in 1 :45 was just a head, while Gallito was a half length farther back in third position. Pinetum, a four-year-old Menow colt, had the benefit of a powerful ridefrom the veteran Logan Batcheller and those in the crowd of 11,360 who supported the winner received a mutuel. The victory was the first of the year in four starts for Pinetum and took place on the most pleasant afternoon of this young meeting. The other starters were Erlen Stables Chateau and Gwynn Campbells Peeper, while another entrant, Mrs. J. R. H. Thourons Leap Tide, was withdrawn to await tomorrows Kent, in which he faces three-year-olds, ex-* clusively. Chateau, Peeper and Gallito raced for the early advantage, with the rather- awkward-running Erien" Stable racer holding a narrow advantage while along the inside. None of the trio showed any signs of wearying through the first three-quarters and they remained as named and heads apart entering the home lane. Beyond Gallito and across the track with three -sixteenths of a •mile came Pinetum, then Skeeter n. For a brief time, the five horses remained closely lapped but soon after passing that pole, Chateau and Peeper went, to pieces, leaving it for the top three to- stage- a thrilling final drive. Gallito, too, weakened ever so slightly nearing the end as Pinetum clung tenaciously to a head advantage he had gained 50 yards from the finish.
