Work Stakes Duo Two Days in Row Third Brother, Oligarchy In Sunday, Monday Moves; Tab Grey Lag Candidates BELMONT PARK. Elmont. L. I.. N. Y., May 6. — It was a busy week end for horses with impending stakes engagements here at mutating Belmont, with a couple of good horses working both Sunday and Monday mornings. Christopher T. Chenerys Third Brother, a candidate for Saturdays 0,-000 Grey Lag Handicap at a mile and a furlong, stepped a handy half in :4733 on the Sabbath, then came back with a brisk mile in 1:4025 this morning. The brother to Hill Prince and Prince Hill went along evenly in his mile trial with jockey Bill, Boland in the saddle as he stepped off fractions of :253r : :5033. 1:15, with a last quarter in :2525. a tick faster than the first. Brookmeade Stables Oligarchy, who finished second at Gulfstream in his only start since he turned in a remarkable effort for a three -year-old in placing second to Jabneh in the Hialeah Turf Handicap at a mile and a half at the beginning of March, also worked Sunday and again this morning. The Alibhai colt, who may be a supplementary candidate to both the Preakness and Belmont, breezed three furlongs in :38 on Sunday, then came back with a mile in 1:41% today. He appeared to tire very slightly after winging away at a high rate of speed when breaking off. Beam Rider Breezes Six Furlongs King Ranchs Beam Rider and Maine Chance Farms Jet Action worked for the Grey Lag on Sunday, while Happy Hill Farms Kingmaker and Frank C. Rand Jr.s St. Armour II. and Mrs. C. Ulrick Bays Greek Spy breezed for the stakes this morning. Beam Rider, who finished second to the hard-hitting Midafternoon in the Excelsior, breezed six furlongs in 1:1423. while Jet Action, who didnt appear to take kindly to rating in that race, sped a handy mile in 1:40. Working alone. Jet Action stepped the fractions in :49. 1:1415 and 1:27 and galloped out the Grey Lag distance in 1:54% Frank I. Wright sent Kingmaker an easy six furlongs in 1:1835, while St. Amour II. went a half in :503r, in the same style for Bill Stephens. Greek Spy ripped off a mile in 1:39, finishing strongly with a :2445 last quarter. Everglades Farms Nances Lad, who is scheduled to appear in the Wilson Handicap at six furlongs on May 14, a race that will be his last start unless he shows -a. return to his best form, sped a half in :47J3 this morning and pleased the work-watchers with his style of moving. Lenny Hunt had Leo Edwards and Harry B. Masseys King Hairan out with blinkers on thLs morning and sent the Florida -bred colt five furlongs in 1:00*5, easing up three-quarters in 1:14. The son of Kings Stride is pointing for the six-furlong Delaware Valley Stakes at Garden State Park on Saturday and never looked better. Woodley Lane Farms Reneged, who has been sidelined since his race behind Summer Tan in the Gallant Fox Handicap last fall, breezed a slow five panels in 1:06 for Continued on Page Four Third Brother, Oligarchy Get Stakes Preps Two Days in Row Continued from Poge Three Homer Pardue as a step toward the comeback trail. Third Brothers first move was on the main track, while his mile this morning was on the slower and deeper training track, while St. Amour II. s half was also on the smaller course. Mrs. E. E. Robbins Midafternoon, another Grey Lag candidate and one of the topweights, breezed a slow and easy mile on the training track on Sunday morning. On the same strip Sunday morning, C. V. Whitneys Magic Forest, who won the rich Gardenia Stakes on the disqualification of Romanita, then was far back in the Friz-ette and Selima for her last two outings in 56, breezed a half in :51. This is an acceptable move and suggests that she may not be too far from the races. Mrs. Jan Burkes Dedicate, who edged Third Brother in the rich Campbell Memorial and is now pointing for the seven-furlong Carter Handicap on Memorial Day at Belmont Park, breezed a slow three furlongs in :38% at Jamaica this morning. B. Frank Christmas sent the improving Pylades a clever mile in 1:41% at Jamaica for Saturdays Grey Lag, while Mrs. Ethel D. Jacobs Paper Tiger went three-quarters in 1:14% for the same handicap. Tommy Root waked up the roan Conduct Code this morning, a couple of touches of the stick putting ran on the First Fiddle colts mind with the result that he skipped a half in :48%. This was an excellent move over the deep Jamaica strip. In his only start last year, Conduct Code finished second in Roots silks.
