Two Improvements At Beulah Course New Administration Building And New Paddock Have Been Built; Meet Opens Saturday GROVE CITY. Ohio, May 6. — Beulah Park, continuing its program of improve-| merits, is all ready for the opening of the J spring meeting on May 11 with two major ; changes in the setup. A new administration building has been erected and a new paddock built. Actually, two buildings have replaced the former tiny structure which had housed the racing secretary, jockeys, stewards and first aid rooms. Both are of the ranch-type construction but they are joined by a hallway at the east end of the two buildings. The new jockey quarters combine two rooms. One, 70 by 48 feet is devoted to lockers, dressing space, work tables, etc., and the other, 70 by 24 is for recreation purposes, with pool table, ping pong table and card tables available to the riders. Adjoining the main room, are small rooms for rub-downs, reducing roams, cool-I ing out rooms and there is also a modern I laundry room with full equipment. At the i rear of the recreation room are additional bunks on which jockeys may rest between i engagements. Those who have seen the new layout say it compares favorably with the finest anywhere. j Offices for Officials For officials, there is a building 80 by 36 , feet with the front portion devoted to the racing secretary and the stewards. Other I offices provided include those for the horsemans bookkeeper, racing commission, horse identification and publicity. At the I J west end of the building, three rooms are 1 devoted to the track physician and first aid and rest rooms. Beulah Park also is introducing several i new officials for the spring season which | runs through June 1. Dr. J. G. Catlett and • Leo ODonnell will be in the stewards stand, joining Mai. John Nethersole who I served last fall. O. E. Pons is the new rac-■ ing secretary and Alex Copeland Jr. and Ken Noe Jr. join C. K. Keller as placing I judges. John Breen has been added as a j patrol judge and Bill Hudson takes over as j jockey custodian, replacing George Bul-j croft. To make room for the new administra-i tion building, the old paddock was torn down and a new paddock erected beyond . | the walking ring. It will accommodate 14 horses, has an odds-board atop for the benefit of fans in the area and at the east end of the paddock, a new building has been erected for the use of the film patrol. C. K. Keller, track superintendent, reports some 40 horses on the grounds with shipments immediately before the meeting , expected to bring this total close to the 800 mark. Pons condition book for the first 10 days of the meeting has been in the hands of horsemen for some time and the new racing secretary anticipates no trouble in making most of his races stand up. Post time will not be determined until after a vote in Columbus on May 7 as to whether daylight time will be adopted or rejected.
