Observe Grand Island Day at Fonner Park All Stores to Close at 3:00 To Allow Attendance at Races By DEAN WILLIAMS FONNER PARK, Grand Island, Nebr., May 6.— Tuesday will be Grand Island Day at Fonner Park. All the stores in Nebraskas third city will be closed at 3:00 CST to allow employer and employes alike to attend the fine racing program presented in their honor. The feature, titled the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce Purse, will bring out a good field of eight to match strides at six furlongs. The eight named under the claiming conditions of the race are W. F Murphys High Bloom. Bert Thomas Laura Red, Ed Luthers Mor Mac, noyd Giffords Wet Mocassin, Al Cascios Ludie T., Ray Oetkens Isabelon, R. L, Allees Ebony Brown and Ivan Norris Applex. Applex turned in a much improved effort in her most recent outing, in which, she finished second to Flashy Su. The daughter of Excite and Apple Cider set the pace to the wire and was only beaten a nose by Flaxy Su. She has started three times at Fonner Park and has shown marked improvement in each start, making it seem that she is racing herself into top form.
