Dr. Joe Kay Seeking Repeat Victory Market Wise Purse Featured at Cicero Gerbers Recent Sportsmans Winner Has In Spite Of and Varsity to Turn Back Today SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., May 6. — George Gerbers Dr. Joe Kay, whose Sportsmans Park record at the current meeting is one victory in two starts, will seek to add to his winning efforts when he goes postward in Tuesdays featured Market Wise, a six and one-half furlong event that attracted eight starters in the overnight entries. The race is the sixth on the eight-race Ladies Day program and the purse is ,000. The foui -year-old Pinebloom — Anthem gelding found the winners circle at Sportsmans Park last Friday, defeating the even-money favorite. Akboy, by one length in a six and one-half furlongs dash. In a previous start Dr. Joe Kay wound up out of the money. Truman to Ride Spring Hill Runner Jockey Jerry Truman, who came to Sportsmans Park along with the Spring Hill Farm stable, owned by James D. Nor-riss and trained by Paul Kelly, will again be up on Dr. Joe Kay. He rode the Gerber colorbearer in his previous start. Dr. Joe Kay started eight times this year, winning two races, his other victory coming during the Oaklawn Park meeting. In Spite Of, who races for Marion H. VanBerg and was acquired by him at Gulf-stream Park in April, will be making his second start for the Columbus, Nebr., owner. The four-year-old chestnut colt by Palestine — Utility was entered here a week ago last Monday but was withdrawn. Hector Viera, who led the riders at the 1956 fall meeting here, will be up on In Spite Of, who shapes up as the probable second choice. William J. Schmidts Varsity, winner of a pair of races in Florida this past winter, will be starting here for the first time as is Raymond J. Westons Royal Sabre. The latter was active at Hot Springs. Both are expected to be among the serious threats in the race. Others contesting the issue will be Mrs. Mitchell A. Silagy Sr.s Sandy M., Wallace Strongs Endon, Dan Logans Ky. Rainbow, and M. B. Aimers Ginger C. Endon is the only one of the four having started at the meeting.
