Winner of Rice Scholarship Is Track Star at Vanderbilt NEW YORK, N. Y., June 2G.— Fred Russell, of the Nashville Banner and a member of the TRA-Grantland Rice Memorial Scholarship Committee, reports that the committee picked a winner in Charles "Chuck" Nord of Wappingers Falls, N. Y., who entered Vanderbilt University as the first TRA scholar in 195G. Going: 2.3 miles in 12:30, Nord galloped home first in the freshman cross-country run recently. He is also a winner in his only start at a mile. In September, Thomas E. Templin of Lexington, Ky., will enter Vanderbilt on the TRA-Grantland Rice scholarship, which pays all college expenses for four years and also provides summertime employment in variow phases of thoroughbred racing.
