PINK SANDS had to be hard held to keep from running out on the first turn, assumed command in mid-backstretch, then bolted out extremely* wide into the stretch, but coming on under strong handling, wore down FINE BUFF in the last yards. The latter saved ground-throughout, took over command in midstretch between calls, then just failed to withstand the winner. INDIAN LAD, carried out on the first turn, closed well in the stretch run. MISS RICO benefitted on the first turn when the leaders went wide to assume command, opened up a good lead into the stretch when the winner bolted, then weakened under pressure. BIRCH BROOK reached the pace before a half mile then flattened out. F. 0. BEE tired. SOUND OF DAWN was carried out on the first turn as was BARKING DOG. HEADING IN was eased after being hopelessly beaten. ETERNAL MIKE bolted on the first turn, bothering horses on the outside of -him, then stumbled and unseated rider. . GREEK SPY, unhurried when outrun early, came to the outside of the field on the final turn and, closing with a good burst of speed in the stretch run, was clear at the wire. ILLUSIONIST gradually improved position, and coming from between horses in the stretch run, finished with good courage. TICK TOCK, never too far off the leader, made an unsuccessful bid for command going to the far turn and weakened under pressure in the final run. HIGH KING dropped far out of it after settling into the backstretch, arid saving ground throughout finished with a sharp burst of late speed. GRAND CANYON, also lagging early, found his best stride when too late. PARK DANDY set the pace under light restraint, drew off when challenged shortly after six furlongs, then could not keep up in the final eighth.
