River Downs to Present Excellent Card Today Eight Clever Sprinters Slated To_Compete in AI Lewis Purse By W. A. CRUSE RIVER DOWNS, Cincinnati, Ohio, June 26. — Racing secretary James P. Ross Jr. has arranged a highly attractive eight-race card for Thursday. Each of the events bears a title honoring TV personalities in the Cincinnati area. The Al Lewis Purse, spotted as the seventh race and named in honor of a performer on Cincinnatis television station WCPO, serves as the main offering Thursday. The Al Lewis is a six furlongs dash for three-year-olds and older allowance campaigners and, while it has drawn the smallest field of the day, eight, including a coupling, the competition is destined to be such that a blanket finish could well result. J. L. Arnolds Heligat may be in line for plenty of support. The three-year-old Continued on Page Fifty-Thre* River Downs to Present Excellent Card Today. Eight Cleyer Sprinters Slated To Compete in Al Lewis Purse Continued from Page Fifty-Six filly, though racing against older horses, won her last start on June 17 and should she run back to that splendid effort she may be difficult to turn back. D. B. Midkiff s Faithful Song is a steady-going campaigner who can match strides with the best of them when in a running mood and figures to be going strongly in the late stages. This will be his first ap-pearance at this oval but he has been training satisfactorily and Gil Roser, Cincinnatis native son who is leading rider at the current session, will be in the saddle. C. H. Everetts Vaults Ration was a late withdrawal from the Walnut Hills Purse last Saturday when a sloppy track prevailed. This four-year-old gelding is nicely placed in Thursdays feature and may make his presence felt throughout the entire contest. T. I. Harkins Spanish Trail turned in a sparkling performance here last Saturday in finishing second to the highly regarded Tyus and was wearing that one down in the final strides. She also may be a keen factor here. P. H. Swaims Colonel Tip and C. J. Wades Eternal Ara will have to improve to receive a higher rating while Joe Jr. and Longstreet, who are owned and conditioned by Cincinnatian L. T. Schavel, may show improvement. The fields are the bulkiest of the current meeting due to the Influx of horses the past few days and the barns at present are filled to capacity* with not a stall vacant In the River Downs stabling area.
