Juveniles at Ak-Sar-Ben Seek Lamplighter Purse Flashy Bond, Royal Leo Promise Keen Duel in Twilight Attraction By DEAN WILLIAMS AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr., June 26.— The Thursday twilight program of eight races will feature the Lamplighter Purse, an allowance affair for two-year-olds. The four and one-half furlongs test for juveniles is endowed with a purse of ,500 and attracted a field of 12 including Vans Pride, Flashy Bond, Bob Knight, Royal Leo, Mary Ann Deck, Frosty Tip, Shift On, Diamond High, Cinchie, Quality First, and Chic Ma-luna. The quality of the field can be credited to the fact that the race was designed with the stipulation that winners would be preferred. J. Kel Houssels Flashy Bond will be making her first appearance under silks since establishing the four-furlong track record of :46%. The fleet Bymeabond filly was never headed in that effort, but had Continued on Page Fifty -O a* Juveniles at Ak-Sar-Ben Seek Lamplighter Purse Flashy Bond, Royal Leo Promise Keen Duel in Twilight Attraction Confinoerf from Page FHty-Six to go all out to beat M. R. Watters Piney Point a neck. Flashy Bond has been raced very sparingly and there may be some conjecture whether she can carry her speed over an extra half furlong. Nebraska will be represented in the Lamplighter Purse by Royal Leo, owned by Milt, Moskowitz White Spot Farm. The well-bred roan son of Spartan Valor and Autumn Night won early in the meeting, but his best effort came in the Ak-Sar-Ben Futurity. He was allowed to open a long early lead in the five-furlong stake, then .tired just enough to be beaten a length by the highly regarded homebred juvenile Curly Kem. The Futurity was run in :59%, making Royal Leos effort one of his best. The co-features on the afternoons program will be the fifth and seventh races. The fifth will probably draw the most-attention of the two, it being an allowance test at one mile and 70 yards. E. K. Careys Dupatta has some excellent races to her credit at Ak-Sar-Ben and will probably go to the post in the fifth race in the role of favorite. Earljr in the Omaha racing season she beat a crack field of sprinters at five and one-half furlongs in near track record time. Since that winning effort she has finished third in the Queens Plate and the George Brandeis Memorial Handicaps. Step Alone, Emblem U., Tin Twist, O. Gay, Emarjay, Whos Joy and Butch K. round out the good field of allowance performers going to the post in Thursdays fifth race. Step Alone, Emblem II., Emarjay and Whos Joy are winners at the current meeting and certain to make the mile and 70-yard affair very interesting.
