THE TREASURES OF CALUMET FARM— A virtual kings ransom in gold and silver, this dazzling collection of racing trophies, probably unequaled in the annuals of the sport, is zealously guarded in the Pine Room at Mr. and Mrs. Gene Markeys home at Lexington, Ky. Amassed during the 25 years the Devils Red and Blue silks of Calumet Farm have been seen on the American turf, the collection of trophies represents victories in almost every major stakes race in the United States. This is one of the few photographs eyer taken of the Calumet Trophy Room, which is not open to the general public. Included in the collection are five of the six Kentucky Derby Trophies center shelf, five Pimlico Special trophies second shelf from the bottom, center, four Jockey Club Gold Cups bottom shelf, center, and four of the five Preakness Stakes cups bottom shelf, right. All told, there are 327 trophies in the collection, 101 gold, 164 silver and 62 julep .cups which are symbolic of stakes victories at Churchill Downs and Keeneland Race Course.
