Merry Self Wins Easily In Maumee Downs Event Hits Winners Circle After Two Years Under Rein to Bobby Wall By T. J. MULLIGAN Staff Correspondent MAUMEE DOWNS, Maumee, Ohio. April 30. — Merry Self showed vast improvement when he scored an eusy victory in the curtain-raiser. The son of Better Self, owned and conditioned by A. Yglesias, had failed to grace the charmed circle in the past two years until his victory here today. Capably ridden by Jockey Bobby Wall, Merry Self had a three length advantage as the field crossed the wire. Ruths John, another longshot owned by the As-Lan Stable, was second a pair of lengths before Dusky Doll, from the G. and G. Stable. H. J. Whites Unchained, who was installed as the choice, wound up fourth after displaying brief early speed. Fenters* Intrajade. a bay son of Hit Parade, eked out a neck verdict in the third , race on the agenda under the astute handling of jockey Andre Emond. W. A. Lehmans Naughty Betty was second, two lengths to the fore of Kirk Sweet "Pie. who performs under the banner of Day and Murphy. Intrajade gained command quickly, began to shorten stride midway of the i stretch but was kept to his task as jockey Emond applied his whip and they held on to garner the major portion of the purse. The winner returned .80 to those who played him to win. Deep Ravine, racing in the white and green silks of J. D. Simpson, had to survive a claim of foul to be declared the winner in the fourth race. The daughter of Degage finished a head before Al Sar-mentos Westbunty. The latter had a half-length margin on G. S. Stewarts Flaming I Oak, who lodged an objection against the winner for alleged interference but after J the stewards viewed the films the claim was disallowed. Jockey Colin McNab. who ; was aboard the winner, celebrated his first saddle victory at the current meeting. The l winner paid .60 and was the second favorite of the afternoon to make good.
