Legate Probable Favorite In Jefferson Downs Test Veteran Campaigner Has Seven Opponents on Tonights Card By J. J. IIAHN Staff Correspondent JEFFERSON DOWNS, Metairie, La., April 30. — The second to last program of the 45 night session at Jefferson Downs is down for decision Friday night and heading the eight-race card is the Bowling Champions Handicap, a 6 furlongs dash for three-year-olds and upward and to be used as the seventh race. Eight are entered and topping the field is Mrs. E. B. Shipps veteran campaigner Legate. The 10-year-old altered son of Some Chance is top-weighted at 118 pounds and is spotting his opposition from four to 10 pounds. The oldster, winner of four races in 25 starts last year and who has won six in 11 tries this year, is scheduled to go postward against Warren Cervini and Sons Quiet Boy, C and S Tassistros Blen Gold, Doyle Standifers Copper Array, Sam C. Brocatos Sam Cee Bee, all imposted at 114; Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Samuels Laura B. W. 113; the H and H Stables Frontier Saga, 110, and A. J. Dentons Kates Rebel, 108 pounds. Legate won the half dozen races at the New Orleans Fair Grounds but since moving over to this course he has not entered the winners circle in three starts. Quiet Boy has not performed to expectations at this meeting while Blen Gold has raced well. Copper Array, who is attempting a comeback, is capable of taking the field from his opposition. Another who may be a factor here is Frontier Saga, while Sam Cee Bee could prove the danger, winning his first two starts here before being raised in company. Kates Rebel showed promise when she first arrived here but has not shown her usual early flight. Laura B. W. had drawn the outside post position and this may prove a handicap to her unless the filly can get to the first turn without mishap.
