I., N. Y., April 30.— Profiting by a blazing early pace, Wheatley Stables favored High Bid took command at the head of the stretch in todays featured Greenport Purse and went on to triumph by three easy lengths over John S. Kroeses Tagama. Mrs. Nicholas M. Schencks Cobul was another length in arrears after ripping off the opening quarter in 33 ft, half in :46y5 and 6 furlongs in 1:11 Vs- Audrey Da vies Miss Cloudy finished fast to be a nose out of the money. Johnny Ruane rode High Bid, who paid and stepped the 1 1-16 miles in l:434/5. High Bid is a three-year-old bay daughter of To Market — Steppirs Stone, by Princequillo, who was bred by Mrs. H. C. Phipps mistress of Wheatley. Todays was her fourth victory in 11 sta:ts this year, while all of her defeats were at 6 furlongs High Bid won the four times she was asked to go farther than that. Ussery Calls for Speed Bob Ussery went to the front at the start with Cobul and hustled her along as though he thought he was going 6 furlongs. At the end of a quarter, she was two lengths before High Bid and widened that margin in the following quarter, while Sara Jordan was a distant third. Siesta was in fourth place in the backstretch, followed by Jim-son Weed, Miss Cloudy, Carneaux and Tagama. Cobul continued to lead at a rapid clip rounding the turns to the stretch, but Ruane roused High Bid leaving the 3-fur-long pole and quickly moved to the pacemaker. Jimson Weed made a brisk move that carried her into third place nearing the quarterpole, while Sara Jordan ran into a blind~switch a little earlier and fell back. Ruane went to the whip at the top of the stretch and High Bid promptly drew clear. The big bay filly was merely coasting through the final furlong. Tagama closed with a belated rush, but was unable to menace the winner, while Cobul held on gamely after her suicidal pace, just lasting to save third money from Miss Cloudy. Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Vineyard and George Zauderers Fleet Greek had swift graduation exercises in the third and fifth events for maiden juveniles. Vineyard raced close to the pace in the early stages of the hird race and took command at the final bend, then drew out in the stretch to score by 3V2 lengths over Robert Lehmans fashionably bred Hallursan, who came from far back.
