Rip Road Heads Sportsmans Field Eyes Sixth Victory Of Year in Sprint Bolero Jane, Soldier Son, Emarjay Among Ten Rivals In Todays Main Offering SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, HLMay 8. Rip Road, a consistent running four-year-old owned by William H. Goelitz and Harold Hoffman and possessing one of the best records for 1957 among the thoroughbreds now competing at Sportsmans Park, will seek to stretch his list of victories for the year to six Thursday afternoon when he goes postward in the featured ,500 Mighty Story Purse at six furlongs. A full field is expected to greet starter Boots Dickerson as 11 were named in the overnight entries. The homebred Rip Road won four of his five races during January and February at New Orleans Fair Grounds, and following this up was a score at Gulf stream in March. Successful Winter Campaign .Coming here from a successful winter campaign, the son of Rippey— Virginia Dare, was backed down to favoritism in his only Sportsmans Park start a couple of weeks ago. He failed to get in the money but may prove a stronger factor Thursday. The 10 others named are Tom Boudries Eli J., A. Taylors Soldier Son, J. Kel Hous-sels Second Bond, W. D. and Guy Roricks Romorantin, Harry S. Nichols Lazy Bogan. Jack Lindheimers Ignition, R. W. Adams Emarjay, Myron Smiths Gay Orbit and Ed L. Smarts Bolero Jane. Three Sportsmans Park winners are in the field. They are Bolero Jane, a four-year-old filly by Bolero, who wound up her Oaklawn Park campaign with a victory and then went on to win a six and one-half furlongs race here last Saturday. Emarjay was a six-length winner over a heavy track 10 days ago, while Soldier Son, an eight-year-old Irish importation, figured in the purse pay-off in all of his three starts at Sportsmans, the latest effort being a one-length victory over Grazar last Saturday. The stronger competition in the race in addition to Bolero Jane. Emarjay and Soldier Son may come from Second Bond. The Houssels stable has won six races at the meeting. Elliot L. was second in his last effort. Lazy Bogan, Gay Orbit, and Eli J. have started here but were unplaced, and Ignition and Romorantin are making their local bows.
